Fees and Logistics

Tuition and Scholarships

Our accredited courses are offered in partnership with the University of British Columbia. The tuition fees for our courses are set by the University of British Columbia and can range from $500 to $700 for each course, depending on the length of the course and the location where it is delivered. Dechinta also charges a program fee for all of our accredited courses. These fees cover the costs of books, accommodations, food and program supplies.

What is Included in Dechinta Program Fees?

  • Up to 5 courses facilitated by Elders, leading Indigenous professors and northern experts

  • Books and supplies

  • Guest speakers, expert visiting professors, mentors and researchers

  • Food and accommodations

  • Full access to all site amenities (i.e., motorboats, canoes, skidoos, and safety gear)

  • Camping gear

What is Not Included in Dechinta Program Fees?

  • University of British Columbia Tuition Fee

  • Necessary personal outdoor gear

  • Transportation to and from location of program (funding for travel may be available through Student Financial Assistance for northern students)

We understand that not all students can afford these tuition fees. As an organization, Dechinta strives to make education accessible to all northern students. We offer a comprehensive scholarship and bursary program, as well as financial support for students who apply for funding. Please contact us if you wish to attend Dechinta but feel that the tuition costs are preventing you from doing so. We will do our best to offer financial assistance as we believe that all students should have access to our programs.

How to Apply

Applications for our programs are available on our website a few months prior to the beginning of the course date. The dates and locations of our courses vary every year, but you can expect the following for application dates:

  • To apply for a course in our Winter semester (March/April), applications will be open on our website September 4th of the preceding year and the application deadline will likely be on October 5th

  • To apply for a course in our Summer semester (May/June), applications will be open on our website January 16th of the same year and the application deadline is February 17th

  • To apply for a course in our Fall semester (September), applications will be open on our website April 17th of the same year and the application deadline is May 5th

We also have a ‘general Dechinta application’ on our website that you can submit an application to at any point in time. If you submit a general application, rather than applying to a specific program, you will be contacted when applications for the next program open to discuss your application and availability. You can apply using our general application form here.

If you would like to register your children in our Dechinta Godzèa program so they can attend the Dechinta course with you, we will arrange their attendance as we finalize your application process.
