Dechinta is hosting a reading group on Thursday evenings to discuss the #Standing Rock Syllabus that was developed by the NYC Stands with Standing Rock Collective.

The syllabus pdf can be downloaded here:  https://nycstandswithstandingrock.wordpress.com/standingrocksyllabus/

It is an amazing collection of readings to understand the history and context of the complex dynamics that have led to Standing Rock.

Anyone who is interested can join anytime,  if you didn’t have time to do the reading come anyway!  We will summarize the reading and have a conversation about the key themes.

Where:  Dechinta Office    2nd floor of the Peace Cafe Building

    When:   Thursday Evenings:  6:30-8:30 pm.

Children are welcome, we’ll have a play area set up and a movie station.

November 17th  Reading 1:  Settler Colonialism Then and Now.  starts on p. 50 of syllabus.

If you missed the first  group -the first reading is amazing and we totally recommend checking it out.  It involves a really good discussion of the process and practices of settler colonialism, as well as a comparison of how colonialism plays out differently in North America, Palestine, South Africa, India and France .

November 25th  Reading 2:  Unsettling Settler Colonialism: The discourse and politics of settlers, and solidarity with Indigenous Nations.  (starts on page 63 of the syllabus).
